More information regarding Code Update classes

Dear Students: Beginning this fall, there will be “Core” classes that will count toward the Code Update requirement. The following classes have been determined to fall into this category: Code Update; Subchapter 4 “Retrofit”; ITM of Sprinkler Systems: NJIFC & NFPA 25; Principles of Modern Building Construction; and Water Supplies and Sprinkler Systems The Division of Fire Safety will designate “Core” classes that can be taken and count towards the Code Update requirement in N.J.A.C. 5:71-4.5.   Two (2) Code Update or Retrofit or Core classes must be taken each three-year cycle (the same exact class cannot be taken twice in the same cycle) N.J.A.C. 5:71-4.5(c) The Department proposes to delineate continuing education requirements into a core and elective continuing education model. The core and elective continuing education model will provide a higher standard of edification to fire inspectors and fire officials. N.J.A.C. 5:71-4.5 Renewal of certification (a)-(b) (No change.) (c) Continuing education requirements, as follows, must be met for renewal of certification. The requirements are based upon the type of certification held and not upon employment position held. Core and elective [Continuing] continuing education units (CEU’s) shall be approved by the Division for technical and administrative courses (one CEU equals 10 contact hours). Fire inspector certification—2.0 CEU’s (technical), including [one Code Update program of instruction for any fire inspector who is employed by a local enforcing agency] 1.0 CEU’s designated by the Division as a core requirement. No more than 1.0 CEU’s (technical) for attendance at Division-approved meeting shall be credited toward recertification. Fire official certification—3.0 CEU’s (2.0 technical and 1.0 administrative), including [one Code Update program of instruction for any fire official who is employed by a local enforcing agency] 1.0 CEU’s designated by the Division as a core requirement. No more than 1.5 CEU’s (1.0 technical and 0.5 administrative) for attendance at Division approved meetings shall be credited toward recertification

Code Update Information

Dear Students, The upcoming Code Update classes are currently full. We recommend that you continue to try to register closer to the date of the class as people may withdraw if they have a scheduling conflict. If you’re currently enrolled and learn that you won’t be able to attend, please withdraw as there are other people who want to attend. As an alternative, the Code Update, online, self-paced modules will be available in September so everyone will have an opportunity to take the class before the end of October. How to find regional exam scores

To access regional exam results, please follow these instructions: Login to your authorized myNJ account at www.nj.gov Click on the Firefighter’s Certification System link You will then be directed to your Personal Information page. Your score is displayed under either the CEU Completed or Current Certs buttons. Try both until you find it. A “C” means you passed, an “F” means you failed. Please DO NOT call our office to ask for scores. Due to privacy issues, we DO NOT give out scores over the phone.

Please withdraw if unable to attend

Dear Students, If you’re unable to attend any of the upcoming Drill Ground Instructor classes, we ask that you withdraw or if you have an emergency within 24 hours of the class, please call us at 908-737-3060 or email us at firesafety@kean.edu. We have many people who need to take the class but are unable to due to classes being full. To withdraw, follow these instructions: Step 1 Click on “My Courses” (This is found on the yellow bar across the top of the screen) Step 2 Click on the name of the class you wish to unenroll from Step 3 Click on the picture of the gear box Step 4 Click the gear Step 5 Click the link to “unenrol” Step 6 Click the button to “Continue” Step 7 Click “My Courses”  to confirm if the class you just unenrolled from is no longer listed
