Zoom Issue Mitigation

Dear Student, To help prevent problems with joining Zoom, we have a few suggestions. First, we suggest that you login in to the account where you registered for the class at least 24 hours in advance to ensure you know your login credentials. This is especially important if you’re planning to use a different computer than the one you used to register. Second, you need to understand a little about how to navigate around Zoom. Please see the links below for short tutorials on certain basic topics if Zoom is new to you. For instructions on how to “Chat” please see the link below: https://learning.zoom.us/learn/course/external/view/elearning/391/send-and-respond-to-chat-messages For instructions on audio and video basics please see the link below: https://learning.zoom.us/learn/course/external/view/elearning/57/zoom-audio-and-video-basics A camera is now required for all Zoom classes. Tips for a happy zoom experience

Good morning, Here are our suggestions for having a happy Zoom experience: The morning or early afternoon the day before your class, make sure you remember how to login into your account. Go to www.keanfiresafety.com and click the Login button in the upper right corner. If you have trouble remembering your credentials, email jsteele@kean.edu and firesafety@kean.edu with your name and dfs id number and brief description of the trouble before noon the day before the class. On the morning of the class, do not attempt to join prior to 8:15. If Zoom does not immediately open, wait five minutes and if it is still not open, close the page and begin by clicking the link in your calendar again. Repeat this process until 8:30. If you are still not able to join via the internet, please use the call in method to join. Instructions on how to call in are included with the email that has your handouts. If you’re unable to join by phone at 8:35 a.m., please email me at jsteele@kean.edu. Please note that it can take a few minutes for our technical staff to get all the Zoom meetings opened in the morning, so your Zoom may not open until after 8:15. Please do not give up until 9:00 a.m. If there is a technical issue it may take a few minutes to fix it. I will try to email everyone, but that takes time to. Please repeat step 2 until 9:00 a.m. Please note, that I will be attempting to troubleshoot as I commute in the morning. I try to get to the office by 8:30, but that doesn’t always happen. If I’m driving, I will have to find a safe spot to stop in order to make calls and send email and this takes time, please be patient. Please don’t call/email in the afternoon the day before the class asking if we can let you in. If you want to take a class, you need to register BEFORE noon the day before the class. Zoom classes have a maximum of 65 people and will close if full. Please select a different date or class if the one you are trying to enroll in is full. Check in with the facilitator, respond as requested and enjoy the class.

FAQS for Course Registration

Here are some answers to frequently asked questions regarding account creation and registration for courses: I created an account, but I haven’t yet received a confirmation email. What do I do?  The account confirmation process can take 24- 48 hours. In the meantime, please continue to check your email, including spam/junk files. Your account will be confirmed if you have used a valid DFS ID number. If you still haven’t seen an email after 48 hours, please try to login and register. If, at that point you are receiving a message regarding account confirmation, please email jsteele@kean.edu. I thought I registered for a class, but now I’m seeing a message that says “Unable to join” what does that mean? This message means that the class is in the future and the Zoom link associated with it is not able to open because it is not yet time for the class to begin. Please follow the instructions in the brochure to confirm online that you are now registered for the classes you enrolled in. See the brochure, page 6 for instructions on this process. How do I withdraw/unenroll from a class? You are now able to login and withdraw/unenroll from classes directly from your account. Please see the brochure, page 5 for instructions on this process.
