This workshop discusses the basics of fighting a high-rise building fire. Discussions revolve around engine company operations, truck company operations, command and control, construction, built-in fire protection and life safety systems. We also discuss the many ancillary duties that go with this manpower intensive operation. You don’t need apparatus, you need people! Companies will be assigned to staging, building systems, fire protection, utilities, lobby control, command support, elevator operations and many more tasks. If you have high-rise buildings in your district or you respond to a high-rise district on mutual aid and you’ve been “faking it,” you will never look at a high-rise the same way and you will change your SOP’s and the way you operate. A large amount of photos compliment this class along with a look at well known high-rise fires of the past as well as recent incidents.
