Apparatus driving is an essential skill that must be mastered through training and education to ensure the safety of responders and the general public. Additionally, member organizations benefit from the training and education by reducing liability exposure and improving service life of their equipment. Upon completion of this classroom program, participants will have a full understanding of the many facets of what is required of both the professional apparatus driver and the member’s organization. Information provided is drawn from codes, regulations, NFPA standards, established driver safety programs and personal commercial driving experience of the author from more than twenty years as a successful commercial motor vehicle driver and commercial motor vehicle driving instructor.
